Beef Gravy And Mashed Potatoes

Crockpot Dinners: Beef Gravy and Mashed Potatoes

Busy week nights are the norm in most households so anything we can do to save time is a big hit around here.  This crock pot dish for beef gravy and mashed potatoes is delicious and super easy.

The mashed potatoes and green beans in this recipe are cooked on the stove so you might want to fix recipe on a night where you have an extra 30 minutes.  However if that doesn’t sound like something you will ever have you can buy  steam-able potatoes in frozen food section of most large grocery stores.  They take about 10 minutes to make but the time savings will cost you about 4 servings of potatoes vs. an entire bag of potatoes.  It just really depends on what works best for you!

Beef Gravy with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans

Cook Time: 8-10 hours

Servings: 5

Utensils/Kitchenware

  • Crock pot
  • small pot
  • medium pot
  • potato peeler
  • can opener
  • hand masher or mixer

Ingredients

  • beef picada
  • brown gravy 1 packet
  • garlic powder .5 tsp
  • onion powder 1 tsp
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup water
  • potatoes
  • 2 cans green beans
  • bouillon
  • milk and butter for mashed potatoes (optional)

Cooking

Place beef picada in crock pot and sprinkle with gravy packet, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt and pepper.  Slowly pour the 1 cup of water over the meat.  Cover an turn crock pot on low for about 8 hours.

Approximately 45 minutes before you are ready to eat peel potatoes.  Put potatoes in pot, cover with hot water and lid, bring to a boil on the stove. Reduce heat so the potatoes simmer gently.  Cook for about 30 minutes, check potatoes with a fork for softness after about 20 minutes.

As soon as the potatoes are cooking get the green beans ready.  Open your cans, rinse beans add them to the small pot with a can full of water and 2-3 tsp or 2 cubes of bouillon.  I think the bouillon makes all the difference in the world.  I don’t eat canned green beans without it. Give it a try!  Bring beans to a boil.  Reduce heat to gentle simmer and let cook until your potatoes are done.

Drain potatoes, add a bit of butter and milk then mash them up using a hand masher or a mixer.
